COSMICS CUSTOMS

For Cosmic Customs, I worked on both the programming and UI components. This included implementing the accept and reject buttons, as well as developing a timer script for the game. Once the timer runs out, it triggers a game over.

Elevator Pitch
"The Safety of the Galaxy is in Your Hands!" This striking slogan greets you as you settle into your chair. As a newly recruited agent for the Astral Security Service, your mission is to scan alien travelers from distant star systems and inspect their unusual luggage. You must keep the flow of travelers moving while racing against the clock. Can you handle the pressure, or will your first day be your last?
High Concept
In Cosmic Customs, you take on the role of an agent in the Astral Security Service (ASS). Your job is to allow or deny entry to travelers by monitoring the flow of alien visitors from various star systems. You'll scan their luggage and inspect their bodies for forbidden contraband. In this ever-changing universe, laws, customs, and technology evolve constantly, meaning what’s legal one day may be illegal the next. You must stay sharp, managing X-ray scanners, spotting species-specific prohibited goods, and identifying wanted criminals—all under a time limit to avoid getting fired.
Inspiration
The game draws inspiration from the intense decision-making and detective work of Papers, Please, merging it with the quirky themes and mechanics of Concourse X-Ray. It challenges players to make quick, accurate decisions while navigating a unique and evolving intergalactic landscape.
I programmed the X-ray scanner to move in front of the character when they approach the desk and press a button. After the scan is done, pressing the button again retracts the scanner. I also added manual controls so players can move the scanner themselves if they want.
